Brian Eno’s Turntable II – It’s Just as Cool You’d Expect

Intro

Brian Eno’s Turntable II has just been released. It’s pretty darn epic, but mind the hefty price tag.

Is This The Coolest Turntable Ever?

Brian Eno has always been a pioneer.

Art-school educated, multi-instrumentalist, and pretty much the sole inventor of ambient music.
So, it was no surprise when Eno released a super-limited, highly collectable vinyl turntable in 2021.
That edition was released in an exclusive run of just 50 – plus another eight artist’s proofs.

Now Eno is back with another edition called Turntable II, and it’s even cooler than the first one.

Featuring acrylic LED lights that produce an ever-changing neon “generative colourscape”, the turntable doubles as a highly aesthetic sculpture when it’s not spinning wax.

That colourscape shifts rhythmically through a range of random sequences, speeding up or slowing down depending on the speed of the record, and using overlapping light cycles to produce different colour balances and blends.

“It’s the softness of these colours and the way they merge with each other that is so seductive,” explained the enigmatic Eno.

“When it doesn’t have to do anything in particular, like play a record, it is a sculpture,” he added.

Brian Eno’s Turntable II – Yours at a Cost

Not surprisingly, Turntable II doesn’t come cheap.

If you want to buy one of the 150 individually signed units, it’ll set you back a cool £GBP20,000 – or close to $A40,000!
But you may want to get in quick… with the gallery representing Eno stating in its press release it will increase the price once the units start to sell.

If you happen to be in the ‘hood, you can drop by the Paul Stolper Gallery in London’s ritzy Bloomsbury district to see an example of Brian Eno’s Turntable II up close until 9 March.

Otherwise, maybe it’s time to grab a lottery ticket?
